From Latin vaccīnus m (adjective).

Usage notes[edit]
- The word was originally restricted to medical parlance. Since 2020 it has entered media language, mostly in the form Vakzin n. This is likely due to a desire to reduce repetitions of Impfstoff given the frequency of reports about vaccination. In general usage it remains as yet uncommon.
