From Malay dengar, from Proto-Malayic *dəŋər, from Proto-Malayo-Chamic *dəŋər, from Proto-Malayo-Sumbawan *dəŋər, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dəŋəʀ. Doublet of rungu (hearing (ability)).
