From Old Spanish dizeseis, diezeseis (literally ten and six), an analytical form (cf. Galician dezaseis, Portuguese dezesseis) replacing Old Spanish sedze, seze, from Latin sēdecim (cf. Catalan setze, French seize, Italian sedici).
