  1. A term used as headword in names of certain weak inorganic acids. In English similar weakness is often indicated by using the suffix -ous instead of -ic in the attributive part of the name:
    rikkihapoke vs. rikkihappo = sulphurous acid vs. sulphuric acid
    typpihapoke vs. typpihappo = nitrous acid vs. nitric acid
