hazard ratio (plural hazard ratios)
- (statistics, medicine) A measure of the chance of an event in one group compared to that of another at a particular time or over a subset of a study's time; the ratio between two groups' hazard rates.
Usage notes[edit]
A hazard ratio significantly different from 1 means that the event being studied is much more likely in one group than in the other. A hazard ratio close to 1 means that the event's likelihood is not significantly different between the two groups compared.
