Relational adjective of Juchten (yuft, Russia leather), which see for more. The adjective may be from Russian юхть (juxtʹ) +‎ German -en (made of), and the noun from the adjective. Alternatively, the adjective is from the noun with reinterpretation of -en as that suffix (instead of awkward *juchtenen).
