From Proto-Tai *mwɯːꟲ (“day”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨾᩨ᩶, Lao ມື້ (mư̄), Lü ᦙᦹᧉ (mue²), Shan မိုဝ်ႉ (mṵ̂e), Thai มื้อ (mʉ́ʉ).
