Etymology[edit]

From Late Latin *excadēre (fall away), from Latin cadere, present active infinitive of cadō. Cognate with Catalan escaure, French échoir, Friulian scjadê, Portuguese esquecer, Romanian scădea; also related to Spanish escaecer.
