Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *ϑau-, from Proto-Indo-European *seh₂us- (dry, arid)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *tāw- (to melt). Compare Old High German dāha 'to dry up', Old Norse Þā (loam), German tauen (to thaw), Latin tābēs (melting, wasting away)[2].
