[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit पुत्र (putra), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *putrás (“son”) (itself from Proto-Indo-European *putlós). Doublet of پِسَر (pisar).
