Revision as of 03:55, 6 July 2011

Before filing a request please consider the following:

  • If the change is small, such as adding or removing numbers or changing vowels, it is normally better to change your signature to alter your appearance.
  • It is quicker and easier to simply create a new account and link to your old contributions. Dead accounts are harmless.
  • Signatures and other hardcoded text will not be changed, you will have to manually edit to get rid of them.
  • Single Unified Login: To usurp an existing account:
    1. Please add {{subst:#invoke:template link|show}} or similar to their talk page. If that account has email enabled, please email them and explain the situation. Wait for a week after giving notification for any objections, then post the result here.
    2. Please post a link to a diff in a project where you are active. The diff should be an edit made from your account to a talk page or similar acknowledging that yes, it's you making this request. See this example.
  • You are asking for a favour, please be polite and remain patient. In particular, do not pester bureaucrats.

Instructions

Once you've decided that a change is the best way forward:

  1. Check Special:Listusers to see whether your desired name is not already taken. While it is possible to hijack existing user accounts without their permission, this is undesirable and will require a special reason.
  2. Click add your request and explain clearly why you want to make the change, you must sign your request from your old account.
  3. Wait patiently for one of our bureaucrats to deal with your request.

Once fulfilled

Your old account will not exist anymore. All edits and other user data (including preferences and watchlist) from your old account will be reattributed to your new account. You can log in with your old password. A log of these changes is kept at Special:Log/renameuser and the requests are archived here.

  1. You should move your old User: and User_talk: pages to your new user name; don't just copy the content.
  2. If you wish you can recreate your old account and request that an administrator block it to prevent other users from impersonating you.

Global name change on all Internet sites supporting name changing. UltimateSephiroth 13:26, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

User:El Muñeco Shakes It Up, BabyUser:Diego Grez

The privacy concern I had is over, after some kind of "agreement" with the person who was stalking. I'm sorry if this rename does disturb you once more, dear Bureaucrats. =D El Muñeco Shakes It Up, Baby 02:56, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The software says User:Diego Grez already exists and will not allow renaming. Sorry. —Stephen (Talk) 23:09, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Right! Exactly for that reason, please rename this account User:Diego Grez to something like User:Diego Grez (usurped) (?) and then rename El Muñeco blah blah to Diego Grez. I know, I have been annoying you all with several rename requests, but I am sure this will be the last. There was a problem that I have solved in the past few weeks, and I hope you understand. Thank you :) Diego Grez 19:15, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

User:AlhemymUser:mm.srb

I changed my username on the home - Serbian wikipedia, and I wish to do the same here. Cheers unsigned request by 89.110.199.14

No evidence that you are User:Alhemym, so your request is denied. —Stephen (Talk) 23:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

User:Harald KhanUser:Njardarlogar

I need to change my user name here in order to get my SUL back up and running again. Thanks. --Harald Khan Ճ 15:06, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

User:Bobby247User:Bob247

I would like to claim User:Bob247. It is a null edit user. I plan to create an SUL if this can be taken care of here. Have this username at the English and French wiki's. Confirmation can be found there. w:en:User talk:Bob247 --Bobby247 19:21, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

User:AnachronistUser:Amatulic

I am "Anachronist" on most projects except Wikipedia, where I am an administrator known as Amatulic. Since "Anachronist" was taken there and I am unable to usurp that as my preferred username, I am renaming my accounts on the various projects to my Wikipedia admin name Amatulic, to facilitate global login. Here is a diff showing my identity. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:38, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I used my real name without considering that could be stalkable and somewhat dangerous for me.
