Deverbal of utéct (to flee, run away). Equivalent to u- +‎ těk, from Proto-Slavic *tekъ, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *tekʷ- (to run, flow). Compare Polish ucieczka (flight, escape).
