Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Tocharian *ākru, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱru- < *dáḱru- < *dr̥ḱ-h₂eḱru- ‎(eye bitter) (compare *dáḱru-). Compare Tocharian B akrūna, Sanskrit अश्रु ‎(áśru), Avestan asrū-, Lithuanian ãšara.
