Etymology

Inherited from Old Czech sčěstie, from Proto-Slavic *sъčęstьje, essentially “good fate”, “good portion”, derived as *sъ- (good) + *čęstь (piece, part) + *-ьje.[1][2] First attested in the 14th century.
