[edit]Etymology
[edit]Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]țigănie f (plural țigănii)
- Collective term for all Gypsies living in a certain location, or (by extension) a block or area inhabited by Gypsies.
- Synonym: țigănime
- racket, loud noise, din, row
- Synonym: gălăgie
- impolite behavior
Usage notes
[edit]Because the latter two senses derive from a negative stereotype of the Roma people, and because this word derives from the problematic exonym țigan, it is likely to offend Romani people. See the note regarding the use of țigan.
