Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Burmese သောက် (sauk, drink), Old Chinese (OC *sloːɡs, *srus)("to gargle; to rinse"), Garo sok (breast), and Nusu ʂu̱⁵⁵ (drink). Compare with Lhao Vo shaug , Zaiwa shuq, and Longchuan Achang ʂoʔ⁵⁵.
