[edit]Inherited from Byzantine Greek Πόλη (Pólē, “the City”), from Koine Greek Κωνσταντίνου πόλις (Kōnstantínou pólis, “Constantinople”), as in Ancient Greek πόλις f (pólis, “city”). Cognates: Pontic Greek Πόλη (Póli), Laz პოლი (p̌oli).
