Etymology[edit]

Χαλκιδ- (Khalkid-) "Chalcis" + -ικ- "-ic" + ή (feminine). Named after Chalcis, since Chalcidice was settled by Ionian Greeks from the Euboean cities of Chalcis and Eretria.
