Etymology

[edit]

From earlier ἔνρινος (énrinos), with regressive assimilation; from Ancient Greek ἐν (en, in) + ῥίς (rhís, nose) + -ος (-os).

The phonetic sense is a semantic loan from French nasal.[1]

The Hellenistic Koine noun ἔρρινον (érrhinon, sneazing medicine) is semantically unrelated.
