According to Beekes, definitely from Pre-Greek, but compare Sanskrit गर्गर (gárgara, whirlpool, eddy, churn; water-jar). Compare also κορκόδρυα (korkódrua, drain) and κορχυρέα (korkhuréa, subterranean drain).
