Ancient Greek
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- κρώβιον (krṓbion)
Etymology
[edit]Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *kerp- (“to pluck, to harvest”) and so cognate with Proto-Germanic *harbistaz (“harvest”), Latin carpō (“I pluck”) and Ancient Greek καρπός (karpós, “fruit”). Beekes, instead, claims that the word must be of Pre-Greek origin.
