Of foreign origin. Compare Sogdian 𐼾𐼴𐽀𐼹𐼻𐼸 (pwrδnk), Bactrian πορλαγγο-ζινο (porlaggo-zino), Pashto پړانګ (pṛāng), Persian پلنگ (palang), and Sanskrit पृदाकु (pṛ́dāku). See also πάρδαλις (párdalis) and πάνθηρ (pánthēr).
