Etymology

The origin is Lua error in Module:parameters at line 239: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF.. Folk-etymologically explained as πελός (pelós, dark) +‎ ἀργός (argós, white). Has been linked with Old Armenian արագիլ (aragil). Witczak (1991) suggests that the word is a compound, with second term continuing otherwise unattested *ἁργός (*hargós), from Proto-Indo-European *sr̥ǵos (stork), akin e.g. to Proto-Germanic *sturkaz (stork).
