[edit]From Byzantine Greek σῠ́νορον (sŭ́noron, “border, boundary, limit”) from Koine Greek σῠ́νορος (sŭ́noros, “conterminous with, neighboring, bordering”), equivalent to συν- (syn-, “with”) + όριο (ório, “boundary”).
