From Proto-Hellenic *tíktō, from Proto-Indo-European *tí-tḱ-e-ti, Proto-Indo-European, the reduplicated present of *teḱ- (beget, bring forth). Cognate with τέκνον (téknon), τέκτων (téktōn), τέχνη (tékhnē).
