From Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰesr- (“hand”). Cognate with Old Armenian ձեռն (jeṙn), Old Persian 𐎭𐎿𐎫 (dasta), Albanian dorë (“hand”), Tocharian A tsar, and Latin hir (“hand”).
