Apparently from Turkic *abdyraγan, whence also Kazakh абыржыған ‎(abırjığan), Tatar аптыраган ‎(aptırağan, confused, bewildered), аптырау ‎(aptırau, mystify, be confused), Chuvash аптӑрат ‎(aptărat, confuse, torment, frustrate).
