Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *āk (white). Morphologically ақ (aq) +‎ -ша (-şa). Cognate with Tatar акча (aqça), Bashkir аҡса (aqsa), Kyrgyz акча (akca), Southern Altai акча (akča), Kumyk акъча (aqça), Karachay-Balkar ахча (axça), Crimean Tatar aqça, Turkish akçe, Khakas ахча (axça), Shor ақча, Tuvan акша (akşa, money), Chuvash укҫа (ukśa, coin), etc.
