Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from French buste. Further from Latin bustum (via Italian). Further akin to Latin ūrō.
For the meaning development compare ту́мба (túmba) (< Latin tumba, whence also English tomb).
Compare natively formed Czech poprsí, Polish popiersie «**по́персь», «**попе́рсье».
