Etymology

Cognate with Moksha вирь (viŕ), Southern Sami vaarrˈ, Mari, Komi-Zyrian вӧр (vör) and Mansi. Possibly cognate with Lule Sami vierra, Northern Sami [Term?] (vierrâ).[1] EES, however, lists Erzya верь- (veŕ-, up) as a cognate of the Lule Sami term and Estonian veer (edge).[2]
