Usage notes

йти and піти are Ukrainian concrete verbs. Their counterpart, ходити, is an abstract verb.

• The forms йти (jty) and іти́ (itý) are used interchangeably and are considered the same word but are different in spelling and pronunciation. Like other Ukrainian words, words starting with "і" + consonant are used after consonants or at the beginning of a clause, words starting with "й" + consonant are used after vowels.
