[edit]Borrowed from Polish kwiatek (“flower”). Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *květъ, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwoyt-o- (“white, light”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt- (“white”), whence English white. Slavic cognates include Polish kwiat and Russian цветок (cvetok).
