[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *kenžə~*kenǯə, from Proto-Uralic *künče (“nail, claw”). Cognates include Finnish kynsi (kynte-), Livonian kīņtš, Eastern Mari кӱч (küč), Komi-Permyak гыж (gyž), Hungarian köröm.
