Etymology[edit]

магтах (magtax, to praise) +‎ -аал (-aal).

Compare Kalmyk магтал (magtal) and Buryat магтаал (magtaal), found in Middle Mongol only as ᠮᠠᠭᠲᠠᠯ (maɣtal).
