Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic млѣчьнъ (mlěčĭnŭ), from Proto-Slavic *melčьnъ. By surface analysis, мле́ко (mléko) +‎ -ный (-nyj). Doublet of моло́чный (molóčnyj).
