Inherited from Old East Slavic молодежь (molodežĭ), from Proto-Slavic *moldežь, from *moldъ (young) + *-ežь. By surface analysis, молодо́й (molodój) +‎ -ёжь (-jóžʹ). Compare Polish młodzież.
