From Proto-Slavic *myti (Old Church Slavonic мꙑти ‎(myti), мꙑѭтъ ‎(myjǫtŭ)), from Proto-Indo-European *muH-. Cognate with Belarusian мыць ‎(mycʹ), Ukrainian мити ‎(myty), Bulgarian мия ‎(mija), Serbo-Croatian мити, Czech mýt, Slovak umyť, Polish myć, Slovene umiti; and with Lithuanian maudyti, Latvian maut.
