Etymology

Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic облакъ (oblakŭ), from Proto-Slavic *obolkъ. Displaced native Old East Slavic оболоко (oboloko). By surface analysis, об- (ob-) +‎ во́лок (vólok) +‎ (-o) (akin to волочи́ть (voločítʹ), влечь (vlečʹ)).
