Inherited from Old East Slavic ола́дьꙗ (oládĭja), further borrowed from Ancient Greek ἐλάδιον (eládion), diminutive of ἔλαιον (élaion, oil, olive-oil).

Compare Belarusian ала́дка (aládka), Ukrainian ола́док (oládok).
