From either a Turkic source, cf. Kazakh теңге (teñge), Bashkir тәңкә (təñkə) or Classical Mongolian ᠲᠡᠩ (teŋ); ultimately from Chinese (MC tojX|tongX, “equal; sort, type, etc.”), or specifically (“small steelyard for weighing money and similar items”), cf. Turkish denk.
