Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *tręsavišče. Morphologically from треса́ (tresá) +‎ -ище (-ište). Akin to Serbo-Croatian тре̏сава (turf swamp), Ukrainian тряса́вина (trjasávyna, quag), Russian тряси́на (trjasína, quag), Polish trzęsawisko. Compare Swedish träsk (swamp).
