Etymology

Back-formation (as if it were a diminutive) from фля́жка (fljážka), older фляшка (fljaška), borrowed from a Germanic language, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *flaskǭ. Compare Old High German flasca (Modern German Flasche), English flask.
