Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *ögret- (“to familiarize; to teach”).

Cognate with Kazakh үйрету (üiretu), Kyrgyz үйрөтүү (üyrötüü), Uzbek oʻrgatmoq, Turkmen öwretmek, Turkish öğretmek, Tuvan өөредир (ööredir), Yakut үөрэт (üöret, “to teach, train”), etc.
