From French bore, later reinforced by Russian бор ‎(bor). Alternatively, can be said to be built from բորակ ‎(borak, borax), as in other languages.

From Iranian *bor ‎(leprosy). Compare Sogdian βrʾwkʾ ‎(βarūkə, leprous). Perhaps related to the source of բորենի ‎(boreni). See also ուրուկ ‎(uruk).
