Etymology[edit]

According to Ačaṙyan, possibly borrowed from a Hurro-Urartian or a “Caucasian” (Kartvelian?) language. Compare Georgian გვარი (gvari, genus, kin, kind, sort, family), გვარობა (gvaroba, to inhabit).
