Etymology 1
From Proto-Armenian *gel- (“to twist; to squeeze”), from Proto-Indo-European *welH- (“to twist, wind, turn”), whence գելում (gelum, “to twist”), grown with -ձ (-j).[1][2][3] Compare Latin con-volvulus. See also գաղձն (gałjn).
