From Middle Persian *dstydʾlk' (dastyārak), from dstydʾl (dastyār) + -k' (-ak), from Old Persian *dastaδāra (lending a hand, assisting). Compare Manichaean Parthian dstdʾr (dstdʾr) and Persian دستیار (dastyār, assistant).
