An Iranian borrowing. Compare Manichaean Parthian dyjwʾr (*dižwār, harsh, grievous; hardship, wrethchedness), Middle Persian dwšʾwl (*dušwār, difficult, disagreeable), Manichaean Middle Persian dwjwʾr (*dužwār, wretched, difficult), Persian دشوار (dušvār).
