Etymology[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Usually said to be from Old Armenian *ընդ-ունչ (*ənd-unčʻ), from ընդ (ənd) + ունչ (unčʻ). But compare Georgian დრუნჩი (drunči), დრუნგი (drungi), დინგი (dingi, snout), ტუჩი (ṭuči, lip; snout, muzzle).
