[edit]From earlier *eme, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁me- (“me”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἐμέ (emé, “me”). The o-stem possessive is from Proto-Indo-European *h₁mos and cognate with Ancient Greek ἐμός (emós).
